This course is built for complete beginners. You don't need any experience, you don't need a partner and you don't need special shoes. Just come along and we'll take it from the very first step.

What you'll learn

Level 1 is a mix of ballroom and Latin-American dances. You'll learn the Tango, Cha Cha Cha, Waltz, Quickstep, Jive and more!

Along the way you'll learn how to lead and follow, how to hear the rhythm in the music and how to move comfortably with a partner. By the end of the course you'll have a set of dances you can use at a wedding, on holiday or at our Friday Night Social Dance.

What to expect on your first night

  • No partner needed. Plenty of people come on their own, and we often have extra instructors on hand to partner you.
  • Wear something comfortable. Choose clothes that are easy to move in and shoes that can pivot. Smart shoes are ideal; trainers and rubber soles tend to stick to the floor.
  • No dance shoes required. You can think about a proper pair once you've caught the bug.
  • Parking is free after 6pm. Use the car parks on Langton Road, the multi-storey on Market Street or the street outside the ballroom.
  • Two left feet are welcome. If you can walk, you can dance. Our qualified instructors teach in a friendly, relaxed way and nobody is put on the spot.

Your first class is free

If you're new to The Regency Dance Centre, your first class on this course is on us. “New” simply means you haven't attended a class with us in the last three months, so returning dancers who have been away a while are welcome too.

Come along, meet the teachers, try the first steps and see how you feel. There's no obligation to carry on. If you enjoy it, classes after that are £7.50 each, or £37.50 for a six-week class pass.

Free First Class Offer – Terms and Conditions
  1. Promoter. This offer is run by The Regency Dance Centre Ltd, The Regency Ballroom, Market Place, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17 1AQ (“we”, “us”).
  2. The offer. Eligible new customers can attend one class free of charge on the Level 1 Ballroom & Latin-American course that starts on Monday 12th October 2026 (Mondays, 7:00pm – 8:00pm).
  3. Who is a new customer. You are a new customer if you have not attended any class, course or private lesson at The Regency Dance Centre in the three months before the date of your free class. Attending our social dances or other events does not count as attending a class.
  4. Who can take part. The offer is open to anyone who is eligible to join our adult classes.
  5. Which class is free. The free class is the first class you attend on this course. The offer opens on Monday 12th October 2026 and closes after the class on Monday 26th October 2026.
  6. One per person. The offer is limited to one free class per person. It cannot be transferred to anyone else.
  7. Booking. You must book your place before the class, either through our online customer portal or by contacting us, and tell us you are claiming the offer. Places are subject to availability.
  8. If you can't make it. If you have booked a free class and cannot attend, please let us know before the class starts. Where there is space we will move your free class to another Monday within the offer period.
  9. No obligation. You do not have to book or pay for any further classes. If you choose to continue, classes after your free class are charged at our standard prices at the time (currently £7.50 per class or £37.50 for a six-week class pass).
  10. No cash alternative. The free class has no cash value. It cannot be exchanged for money, credit, a different class or course, a private lesson, an event ticket or any other product, and it cannot be used as a discount against a class pass.
  11. Other offers. The offer cannot be used together with any other offer, discount or voucher.
  12. Checking eligibility. We will check eligibility against our attendance records. If you are not eligible, our standard class price applies. Our decision on eligibility is final.
  13. Changes to the class. If we have to cancel or reschedule a class you have booked as your free class, your free class will carry over to the next available class on the course.
  14. Changes to the offer. We may change or withdraw the offer at any time. This will not affect anyone who has already booked a free class.
  15. Our other policies. Taking part is also subject to our Cancellation Policy. We use the personal details you give us to manage your booking, in line with our Privacy Policy.
  16. Your rights and governing law. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
