Tip #1: Re-condition your body for movement

Over the last year, dancers across the globe have had to temporarily hang up their dancing shoes and as a result, our usual activity levels have reduced significantly. However, our bodies are designed to move. An active dance class can increase your heart rate that helps pump oxygen and vital nutrients around your body and can also facilitate the circulation of synovial fluid which helps to lubricate your joints. The opposite is also true; if we do not continue to use our body, we can start to lose muscle tone and bulk and our joints feel stiff. Fortunately, the solution is simple; we increase our activity levels. This can be achieved by attending any of our dance classes or lessons!

Tip #2: Leave Perfectionism at the Door

To paraphrase Lao Tzu, “Every journey starts with a single step”. It’s extremely important not to let yourself get caught up in worrying about everything being perfect from the first step. Instead, try to enjoy the feeling of dancing and be proud of what you have remembered. It is natural to forget a few things after a long break, however the body has its own way of remembering what to do and, just like riding a bike, you will be surprised at how quickly it comes back. 

Tip #3: Be Kind to Yourself

And finally, remember that we are all in the same boat, so be kind to yourself and trust the learning process. In time, you will be waltzing around the floor without a care in the world!
